In the period 2000 until now miss Dorgé has built about 30 stone schools in her region. These schools are used for both basic and secondary education. The inhabitants of the many, mostly small, villages in the Volta Region are too poor to submit cash together for the construction of a solid, stone school. Therefore many of these villages have to manage themselves with “classrooms” made of clay, bamboo and grass. During periods of long continued rainfall such as in the rainy season and violent wind the pupils has to stay at home enforced. Because both of the parents often work on their farm an older sister has to take care of the younger brothers and sisters. That’s one of the reasons that girls has problems with finishing their education. Onderwijs 02
The problem with poorly constructed classrooms is that they don’t cause only a lot of lessons cancellation, but also the constant changing of unmotivated teachers. Besides the schools don’t provide proper teaching materials when they don’t satisfy the government. A lack of good education facilities demoralized parents in a way that they don’t send their children to school finally. In that case for them it is better that the children help their parents with working on the farm, because this will increase the family income. The building of good schools gives the first impulse to all parties involved for better education and better study results. Proper training increases the opportunity of employment and income. The learned skills can also contribute to the structure and further development of the country. The Ghanaian Government pays the teachers and in case of proper school buildings also the study books.
